Back Pain and Cortisone

Yesterday, a 42 year old male Long Shore man limped into the office with leg pain which started in lower back.

This patient uses his back physically at times and needs a very health back and legs. When the back pain started he was told an injection of cortisone would stop the pain. Yes, it did. He felt great. Cortisone when injected correctly will decrease the inflammation, for awhile.1. However, these “injections” are not treating the cause of the problems. So yes, pain and inflammation comes back. In other words, the cortisone will turn off the “fire alarm” but it will not treat the fire, nor the cause of the fire. When the effects of the medications wears off, there is usually more problems. A good Doctor of Chiropractic will not only diagnose the symptoms, but will identify the root cause of the problem. Trigeminal Neuralgia Natural Treatment

Trigeminal neuralgia also known as prosopalgia or the Suicide Disease is characterized by episodes of intense pain in the face, originating from one of the three branches in the face. Recently, in September 2011, a patient named Sonya walked in our Torrance office with Trigeminal Neuralgia. She started with 24 episodes of pain per day, lasted form 10-20 minutes in duration. This pain is so intense she could eat nor talk. An interesting note was she had this condition before, and had surgery on the other side of her head to relieve the symptoms. Sonya didn’t want to go through the brain surgery again. We’ve had patients with this condition, some associated with headaches and neck or arm pain. Our Chiropractic treatment decompresses the upper cervical nerve roots and immediately stops pain. This was done during Sonya’s treatment. Next, we work with the tight soft tissue attaching to the occipute region. One important element we use is a special brace to support the upper cervical spine. Today Sonya is completely out of pain without any episodes of Suicide pain. This treatment protocol is great for treating trigeminal neuralgia. We are very successful with this treatment. Back and Leg Pain

Today a patient walked in the door with back pain and leg pain. This happens every day. However, this was little different. I noticed during examination he had foot drop. (This is when the foot doesn’t raise.) I asked he during exam/ history “when did your foot start having this problem”. He stated, a personal trainer online (y-tube) gave advice for back pain. He followed the advice and he began to experience leg pain and this new foot drop problem immediately after the exercise.

Recently, I’ve noticed many patients coming in from back pain due to wrong information. Many patients are going online a listening to personal trainers advice on back pain. Don’t get me wrong, I love personal trainers, but giving advice on treating back pain should not come from them. I should know, I was a certified personal trainer for many years prior to becoming a Doctor of Chiropractor. Please get professional advice first. After digital radiographic examination, this patient was informed he had a congenial fracture in his back called a Spondylolisthesis. The information the personal trainer gave this patient injured him, and could have paralyzed home. Please, get a true diagnosis from a Doctor of Chiropractor or a good Orthopedist before treatment. Most of the time a personal trainer can be very helpful. But they should always follow the advise of the Doctor first. By the way, this patient will be fine without using surgery and pain medications.

Sciatica – Not Just Your Average Back Pain

Today in my office I saw yet another case of sciatica.  Now sciatica is a condition caused when pressure is placed on the sciatic nerve.  This pressure can be caused by a number of things, the most common of which include:  muscles (Piriformis), vertebrae (Lumbar), or intervertebral discs.  Sciatica is a painful disorder which includes low back pain and pain radiating down the back of the leg(s).

A recurring theme in these sciatica patients is that the first stop is usually to their medical doctor who typically prescribes a medication that masks the symptoms for a while but never really works on the cause of the problem which is the pressure on the sciatic nerve.  When the patients make it to our office, Back to Healthcare, many times the problem has been ongoing for quite some time.

What we are able to do with sciatica conditions is quite amazing.  After completing a complete history, exam and x-rays we are able to diagnose the cause of the pressure on the sciatic nerve.  Then with the use of chiropractic, physical therapy, massage therapy, nutrition, sports medicine, and cold laser we are able to remove the pressure off the sciatic nerve.  This in turn causes the relief of the lower back pain, as well as the radiating pain into the legs.

Back Pain Solved – Redondo Beach Chiropractor

I have had chronic lower back pain since my early 20′s. It would sometimes be so bad that I couldn’t get out of bed in the morning. I tried to go to medical doctors to get help, but all they did was give me muscle relaxers and send me on my way. Basically masking the problem, not solving the problem.
